RATES AND TERMS

Unless otherwise agreed to prior to the commencement of services, the following rates shall apply and are subject to Iowa Sales Tax:

Investigator time and mileage (per investigator) --

Investigations---------------------- $75 per hour
Drive time (note 1)---------------- $45 per hour
Clerical (report preparation)------- $45 per hour
Vehicle mileage--------------------- 55-cents per mile

Process service (note 2) --

Simple (note 3)-------------------- $45
Other------------------------------- $45 per hour/55-cents per mile

Long-distance phone calls --

5 minutes or less------------------ $1
More than 5 minutes---------------- Estimated cost
Other expenses (note 4)------------------- Actual cost
A retainer, to be received prior to the commencement of services, is required in the amount of the estimated total cost of time, mileage and expenses. When the billing for services is less than the amount of the retainer received, a prompt refund check will be issued for the retainer balance. The requirement for a retainer may be waived for attorneys, insurance companies and established business firms.
Notes --
(Note 1) The drive time rate shall apply for travel beyond the city limits of Iowa City, Coralville and University Heights. For all other travel, the rate shall be at the hourly rate for Investigative time and shall commence from the Agency’s office. Drive time rates do not include mileage.
(Note 2) Process service rates apply when the whereabouts of the individual or individuals to be served is the same as provided by the client. When it is necessary to locate the individual or individuals to be served, rates for investigations, drive time and mileage shall apply. If service is needed same day as documents are received, rates are 50% higher. Hourly and mileage rates apply if we must pickup documents from client.
(Note 3) “Simple” process service shall mean (a) the service of documents upon one individual or organization within the city limits of Iowa City, Coralville and University Heights; (b) the whereabouts of the individual or individuals to be served is the same as provided by the client and (c) the service is completed on the first attempt.
(Note 4) Other expenses include, but are not limited to, database reports, overnight lodging, meals (when overnight lodging is required), video tapes, film, parking fees, commercial transportation and audio tapes.
